Sized for the phase, not the whole job
Most construction waste problems come from renting one container for an entire project. Framing waste is bulky and light. Demo debris is dense. Drywall scrap fills a box fast and weighs more than crews expect. Renting by phase, and swapping between them, almost always costs less than one long rental with an overage charge on the back end.
| Phase | Recommended container | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Demolition and tear-out | 10 or 20 yard | Dense material, weight is the limit |
| Framing and sheathing | 30 yard | Bulky and light, volume is the limit |
| Drywall and plaster | 20 yard | Heavier per yard than crews expect |
| Roofing tear-off | 10 or 20 yard | Shingles are roughly 250 lbs per square |
| Finish and punch list | 20 yard | Mixed packaging, trim scrap, flooring offcuts |
| Concrete, slab or hardscape | 10 yard, clean load | 4,000 lbs per cubic yard |
Swap scheduling
Give us your phase dates when you book and we will plan hauls around them. A container that fills on a Thursday and sits full through the weekend costs you crew hours on Monday. Ten days are included per rental period and extensions run $10 per day if a phase slips, which on Reno projects it frequently does.
Keep loads clean
The single biggest lever on cost is separating heavy material. A 30 yard full of framing scrap will come in comfortably under 3 tons. That same container with a slab demo thrown in will be over the limit before it is half full, and overage at $50 per ton on a large container adds up fast. Put masonry, dirt and roofing in their own 10 yard.
Placement on an active site
Decide the door orientation before the driver leaves, because the container cannot be turned once it is set. Keep the approach clear of stockpiled material, portable toilets and trade parking. On tight infill lots in Midtown and the Wells Avenue corridor, a street placement with a City of Reno encroachment permit is often the only workable option. We walk you through that on the permit page.
Where local service partners deliver
Job sites across Reno and Washoe County, including South Meadows, Damonte Ranch, Stead, Lemmon Valley, the Airport industrial area and Downtown infill. Availability in Sparks and Spanish Springs is confirmed by address.
Frequently asked questions
What size dumpster do contractors usually rent in Reno?
A 30 yard for framing and general construction waste, and a 10 yard for anything dense like concrete, dirt or roofing. Many jobs run both.
Can you swap containers during a build?
Yes. Give us your phase dates at booking and we will schedule hauls so crews are not working around a full box.
Can I put concrete in a construction dumpster?
Keep it in its own clean 10 yard load. Mixed into a large container it will blow past the weight allowance and trigger overage.
Do you take asbestos or hazardous waste?
No. Asbestos, hazardous waste, solvents, fuels and batteries are prohibited and require a qualified abatement or disposal professional.
How long can a container stay on a job site?
Ten days are included per rental. Extensions are $10 per day with no cap, so long-running projects are no problem.
Ready to book?
Ten days are included on every rental. Extensions are $10 per day. Overage is $50 per ton over the weight limit.
