When a 10 yard is the right call in Reno

The 10 yard is the smallest roll off local service partners deliver, and it is the one most Reno homeowners underestimate. It holds about three full pickup truck loads. That covers a two car garage cleanout, a single bedroom or bathroom demo, a kitchen tear-out down to the studs, or a yard conversion where you are pulling out sod and putting in decomposed granite.

It is also the correct size for anything dense. Concrete, dirt, rock, roofing shingles and plaster are heavy enough that you will hit a weight limit long before you fill the box. Renting a bigger container for heavy debris does not help you, it just gives you more room to accumulate overage charges. If your load is mostly weight and not volume, the 10 yard is the smarter rental.

What fits in a 10 yard dumpster

Dimensions and driveway fit

The 10 yard measures about 14 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 3.5 feet tall. Add roughly 10 feet of clearance behind it so the truck can roll the container off and pick it back up. That means you want about 24 feet of straight, open driveway or street frontage, and no low branches or power lines directly overhead.

The low 3.5 foot walls are the practical advantage. You can lift debris over the side instead of walking it up a ramp, which matters when you are loading broken concrete or wet plaster by hand. On the older Reno housing stock in Old Southwest and around Wells Avenue, where lath and plaster comes out in heavy chunks, that low wall saves real time.

Driveway protection in Reno

Reno driveways take a beating from the freeze and thaw cycle, so a loaded container sitting on aging concrete is worth thinking about. We place plywood or boards under the rails on request at no charge. Tell us in the placement notes when you book. If your driveway is stamped, colored, or newly sealed, say so and we will plan the drop accordingly or recommend a street placement instead.

Weight limit and overage

The 10 yard includes 1 ton, which is 2,000 pounds. Overage is $50 per ton over that limit, prorated. To put that in context: a single layer of comp shingles from a 300 square foot roof section runs close to a ton on its own, and a yard of wet dirt is roughly 2,000 pounds by itself. Household junk and furniture almost never reach the limit. Dense material almost always does.

If you know the load is heavy, tell us the material when you book. We would rather help you plan the right container than surprise you with a weight charge after pickup.

Not sure between a 10 and a 20? If the debris is heavy and dense, take the 10. If it is bulky and light, take the 20 yard. Volume is cheap. Weight is not.

How the rental works

  1. Reserve online or by phone and give us the delivery address and date.
  2. We confirm availability with the local provider before your card is charged.
  3. The container is delivered to your driveway, street frontage, or job site.
  4. You have 10 full days on site. Extensions are $10 per day after that.
  5. Call or book pickup when you are done and a local service partner hauls it to the transfer station.

Reno neighborhoods local service partners deliver to

Local service partners deliver 10 yard containers throughout the city, including Midtown, Old Southwest, Northwest Reno, Caughlin Ranch, Somersett, Damonte Ranch, Hidden Valley, the University district and the Wells Avenue corridor. Nearby communities including Sparks, Sun Valley, Spanish Springs and Verdi can submit an address for availability confirmation.

If your home is in an HOA neighborhood such as Somersett or Damonte Ranch, check your CC and Rs before you book. Some associations limit how many days a container can sit in view of the street, and a few require notice in advance.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a 10 yard dumpster rental in Reno?

$518.50 flat. That includes delivery, pickup, 10 days on site and 1 ton of weight. Extensions are $10 per day and overage is $50 per ton over the limit.

How long can I keep the 10 yard dumpster?

Ten days are included on every rental. If you need longer, extensions are $10 per day and you can add them at booking or during the rental.

Will a 10 yard dumpster fit in my driveway?

Almost always. Plan for about 24 feet of straight length to allow room for the truck to roll it off, plus overhead clearance free of branches and wires.

Can I put concrete or dirt in a 10 yard?

Yes, and the 10 yard is the size we recommend for it. Heavy material is priced by weight, so a smaller box with a clean heavy load usually costs less than a large box you cannot fill. Tell us the material at booking so we can confirm pricing.

Do I need a permit for a 10 yard dumpster in Reno?

Not on your own private driveway. You do need a City of Reno encroachment permit if the container sits on a public street or right of way. See our Reno dumpster permit page.
